President Comes Out Against New Legislation In Michigan

The Obama administration, in a statement Thursday afternoon, came out against proposed “right-to-work” legislation being pushed by Republicans in Michigan including Gov. Rick Snyder (R).

Michigan Republican Governor Rick Snyder is on a post-election power grab to strip the rights of workers. Just like Wisconsin, the Koch brothers have emerged from the shadows to support Snyder’s extreme lurch to the right.

Michigan voters tried to make clear that they didn’t want this, but they were shut out of the state Capitol building. What Republicans are doing in Michigan is more than anti-worker – it’s just plain wrong. This isn’t the way states should be run.

Add your name to send a message to Snyder and the Kochs that we won’t stand for this. We support workers in Michigan who are fighting to be heard.

Meet a first time voter: Zarah Abdul R.
A few weeks ago, our volunteers registered voters at the annual Arab American Festival in Dearborn. We met many people who came by to register for the first time – but one woman was especially memorable.
Zarah, who recently became an American citizen, enthusiastically approached our table when she saw our “سجل للتصويت” (Register to Vote) sign. She pulled out a copy of her citizenship certificate, and filled out the form.
Zarah asked to have her picture taken with her completed form, and left with some literature to “spread the word” about the President’s accomplishments.

+ "I hear more success stories every day”
Obama for America | By Noah Remnick on June 20, 2012
“I was able to expand my Rochester-based business and open an office in Midtown Detroit, where the majority of my new clients are coming from. These clients are telling me that the auto rescue has improved their bottom lines. An automobile dealership was able to renovate and expand their showroom. A Tier One automotive supplier has been able to hire more people and grow their tubing business. I hear more success stories every day.”

The last stop for Mitt Romney’s bus tour is his home state of Michigan. But don’t expect a happy homecoming: In addition to arguing that we should “let Detroit go bankrupt,” the policies that Romney is proposing would cut student aid for 337,000 students and jobs for 9,900 teachers. And 510,000 Michigan families would see their taxes go up by an average of $900.

Send this postcard to your friends to tell them what Michigan already knows: Romney economics would be a disaster for our country.

Mitt Romney said, “Let Detroit go bankrupt.” Detroit hasn’t forgotten.
The American auto industry is on the rise again, but it wouldn’t have happened if Mitt Romney had his way and “let Detroit go bankrupt.”
The auto industry supports more than 1 million jobs in Michigan - one out of every five jobs in the state.
Let us know how the auto recovery has benefited you and your community.
